EBSU Update: Lecturers in Ebonyi State University Begins Indefinite Strike – [ASUU CHAPTER]

EBSU (ASUU) Chapter Begins Indefinite Strike – Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki may not meet up with their Academic Calendar for 2016/2017 Academic Session because of the indefinite strike that have just taken place by the lecturers.

This was made possible as Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ebsu Chapter are lamenting over how the State Government failed to fulfill the demands of the union over certain issues.

  1. My question is, what have the State Government failed to fulfill that leads to Indefinite Strike by the Lecturers?
  2. Then, who is to blame for this strike?
  3. And also, how can these indefinite strikes affects students that are yet to be admitted into the university?

Ultimate Reasons Why Ebonyi State University Embark On Indefinite Strike

Ebonyi State University has been doing perfectly well as the University will soon be ranking among the best University in Nigeria. The information reaching us concerning the reasons why EBSU embark on indefinite strike was that the State Government failed to release the 2014 Professional Promotion and 2015 Promotion of other cadres of academic staff of the institution According to the Chairman of the union, Professor Ndubuisi Idenyi

He also lamented that apart from the release of the promotion, the Union is also protesting the slashing of their Monthly Salaries by the State Government.

That’s brought me to my second question that said, ‘who is to be blamed for this strike?’

From the cogent reasons that has been stipulated for this indefinite strike by the ASUU chapter, it is obvious that the State Government have to be blamed for this as the ASUU chairman added, He accused the present State Government of being pretentious about most of the issues raised by the union especially gazzeting of the Academic Staff of the institution adding that the previous administration had approved the sum of 4.1 million for the printing of the gazzete which was to have been done in Enugu before the present Government came on board.

Furthermore, this may go a long way to distort the activities of the university which will equally affects the Fresh Students that are yet to be admitted into the University and also restrict the returning students from coming back to resume their academic activities for the year.

In summary of this article, I believe that there will be a throwback solution and also a peaceful negotiation between the state government and The Asuu Union Chapter in Ebonyi State.
